Long Day Care Centre

LDC-Shelter

Our 58-place Long Day Care Centre is staffed by trained and experienced educators, with diploma-trained educators in each classroom and an early-childhood teacher in our 4-5 year-old room as well as our director. Under the National Quality Standards we have been rated as Exceeding National Quality Standards.

The Centre provides nutritionally-balanced meals which are prepared daily at the Centre, and special dietary requirements can be catered for. We have a six-week rotating summer/winter menu to introduce the children to a range of new foods as well as their favourites. Children are encouraged to celebrate their birthdays and a cake can be provided by the centre for a small charge upon request.

The Centre operates in accordance with the Early Years Learning Framework which centres around children learning through play that is based on their interests. The Centre’s educators use intentional teaching strategies to provide challenging experiences to promote children’s learning. Each day educators take photos and record on Storypark what the children have been learning and are interested in. Parents are able to sign in to Storypark to view their child’s individual progress, and Learning Summaries are provided for each child each year.

Our School Readiness Program integrates our educational content into the care setting to ensure children receive the preparation they need for school. In the final year of pre-school education, two Learning Summaries are provided for each child as well as a Transition to School Statement.

We have several large shaded outdoor play spaces for the children and our experienced long-serving staff provide a range of opportunities for the children to explore and learn each day. The Centre hosts a variety of visitors who provide educational experiences for the children, from musicians and entertainers, emergency services personnel and zoo and farm animals. There are opportunities for families to join us for special occasions.

The support we receive from Uniting Early Learning provides staff with networking and training opportunities as well as programming ideas and support and assists us in promoting best practice in service delivery for our children.
